Tofu have always been a vegan's favourite protein. It can soak up a ton of flavour in just a few minutes. This tofu dish is sticky, tasty and slightly sweet - perfect to pair up with noodles or rice.

INGREDIENTS
  • 1 block tofu cut in rectangles
  • 2 tsp arrowroot starch
  • 3 tbsp tamari
  • 1 big tbsp hoisin
  • 1 tsp maple syrup
  • 1 tsp sriracha
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • a pinch chili flakes
METHOD
  1. Press tofu for one hour and pat dry. Cut into desired shapes and sprinkle arrowroot over them. Toss to coat evenly.
  2. Whisk sauce ingredients in a small bowl. Heat 2 tbsp olive oil in a nonstick pan.
  3. Place tofu gently into pan browning on each side. Pour sauce into pan. Allow sauce to bubble away turning tofu to coat.
  4. Remove from heat. Serve with, cooked rice, garlicky mushrooms, sliced cucumber, green onion and sesame seeds.
  5. Pour any excess sauce over rice.
